The children get to try out how life could have been for kids that got to work as "Miners Kids" in the old days.
Lots of fun and lots to learn make the Theme Day to a marvellous experience for our "Miners Kids".

Our History Tours events have started.
On Sunday June 21 was Opening Day for our dramatic History Tours 2015. This is our 9th year now and the event is more popular than ever. The History Tour changes a bit every year. This summer you will meet both Sturfajtn and Lillfajtn, and of course Anna, SturKisti and LillKisti as before.
Our eminent Guide is also roleplaying as SturKisti in several scenes with all the other roleplayers. At the same time the Guide is our storyteller. AND you will learn a lot;  about how the people in the villages of Orsa made their living in the grindstone mines of old times and what a significant part of our local history the sandstone mining and the grindstone handicraft have been for so many centuries. A History Tours through our Grindstone Mines makes a most entertaining lesson in the history of Orsa community.

Congratulations Orsa Grind Stone Association!
The Orsa Grind Stone Association have received The Orsa Cultural Award 2015!

Agnetha Björkman (chairman) had the honor to receive the prize for the Association during The National Day Celebrations today.
Orsa Handicrafters in the Grindstone Group(Slipstensgruppen) was mentioned  in Agnethas speech as also having a big part in the work of preserving the handicraft for the future generations.

Orsa Grind Stone Association received the prize for, amongst other things, the highly skilled and entertaining way they work with preserving this part of the industrial and cultural history of Orsa.

Orsa Grindstone Association have lots of fun activities. We shall invest our efforts in the Museum. This year we are increasing the exhibition with two rooms, where a map of Dalarna and another of Orsa will show geologically interesting places. Welcome around Midsummer and take a look at how we succeded!

In the 21 and 22 of May at the Orsa Folk Museum(Orsa Hembygdsgård) they welcome the fifth-graders in Orsa schools to come and look at and also participate in the craft of cutting a grindstone by hand. This is an annual handicraft day for Orsa schools.

Is it already time to talk about a Christmas Fair?
Oh Yes, a Christmas Fair demands a lot of preparation and we want it to be a great one.

 Do you want to: show your hobby, play music, sell stuff that you made yourself, sell bread/cheese/Christmas candy/Christmas plants/fish and so on,  use the smithy, sell from your Mini Flea Market table or anything else you might come up with. Come alone or bring a friend!

Book a table for 100 kr or give a gift for our lottery (we prefer that). Tables are avaiable.

Orsa Bagarstuga will provide all the sweet bread and cookies at the Christmas Fair.
They will also be selling both sweet bread and regular bread.

This is also happening in the Grindstone Mines this summer:
Exciting things are brewing in our villages - "KONST I BYN"  June 15 - August 31 2014

In Dalarna, Hälsingland and Gästrikland are eight villages working on a joint project of  Land Art this  summer, with exhibitions outdoor in the nearby nature of each village. This years theme - Breathing Space - is the same in all villages and so is Opening Day: Sunday June 15 at 3 pm. Then, dear visitor, you can travel around all summer to all the villages and enjoy the art.
The last day to see all the art is August 31.


Kallmora - a village in Orsa

The place of our exhibition is Malungsgruvan, in The Grindstone Mines of Orsa:
It is the only place they are still mining the sandstone.  Here is also an outdoor stage and room for an audience of at least 500 people. This is also the place where the International Stone Symposium in 2002 was held.
Some of the pieces of sandstone art are still standing here.
The Kallmora exhibition will be koncentrated to the wooded area around that Symposium place. It will be easy to spot from the path leading to Malungsgruvan and from the outdoor stage.

Winter Greetings from Orsa Grindstone Mines!
The snow is deep and it will be some time before the sun will brings us thaw to all the walkingpaths here. Spring is on its way with noonday thaw and dripping icicles, even if it is still cold at night.

It is time to take a look in your calender for the coming summer activities. Take a note for this season that The  Orsa Grindstoneassociation will as usual be offering History Tours, Themedays and Museum Guides for your benefit.
